To say that Sitges is gay-firendly is not enough. Every year, this seaside village dresses up to host the celebration of the gay pride and thousands of people join the party. Music, colors, dancing and joy fill the streets of Sitges during five days.
Located in Barcelona province, just a few kilometres from the capital, we find Garraf county. This coastal area is known for its unique Mediterranean beauty: wedged in between the sea and the mountains, our county features crystalline beaches with kilometres of fine sand stretching towards the Garraf Massif, a karst formation with spectacular cliffs and hidden spots created by erosion.
In addition to the natural beauty of its landscapes, Garraf county also has numerous towns with cosmopolitan, medieval, Modernisme and fishermen’s buildings. Sitges is the main town in this county and the best example of this. If you’re thinking of coming to Sitges and want to visit more than just our little Mediterranean gem, this post includes some charming towns near Sitges.
Now that we’re well over the post-Christmas “hangover” and fully settled into the new year, Sitges is now getting ready for what is, without a shadow of a doubt, the most important and cosmopolitan celebration in this little jewel on the Mediterranean: Sitges Carnival. It is one of the most popular festivities of its kind in Catalonia and always brings in the most daring costumes, fun into the early hours and the catchiest rhythms from the carnival groups who make the celebrations all the more special.
If you're thinking of getting away to take in Sitges Carnival 2020, in this post, we'll tell you about all of the most important events that you just can’t miss.

Autumn has finally arrived in Sitges and we are looking forward to it. It is true that in this season we notice how the temperatures drop but, we are not going to fool ourselves, in Sitges we love to boast about our "microclimate": the Garraf mountain protects the city and makes the temperatures drop but not so much that we have to stay at home under a blanket (although it would not be such a bad option).
Yet another year the International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, otherwise known as the Sitges Film Festival, is back. This Festival has a solid history (it is celebrating its 52nd anniversary in 2019), and on its own merits it has become one of the most recognised film awards in Europe.
August is synonymous of summer and main festival in Sitges. One more year, the city puts on its best clothes to celebrate the big festival in our city. Declared Patrimonial Festival of National Interest (2016) and Traditional Festival of National Interest (1991) by the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Festa Major de Sitges 2019 will take place from the 17th to 25th August 2019.
Although many tourists are expected to arrive during the month of August, there are sometimes tourist apartments left in Sitges Group Apartments to be able to stay during the Festa Major de Sitges 2019. Although the program is still provisional, in our blog we want to explain you everything that is being prepared to live and enjoy these days.
One more time , Sitges dresses in its best clothes to welcome the Feast of Corpus Christi. A celebration that this year will take place the next Thursday 20th June. This means the main acts of the Corpus Christi 2019 will happen during that weekend. A weekend that also coincides with the start of summer, Sant Joan's Eve and the end of the school year, so a lot of people will visit us during the Corpus 2019 in Sitges.
One of the most anticipated events in Sitges each year is Sitges Bears Week. An event that every year brings more than 5,000 people to Sitges and has become, on its own merits, one of the largest and best known Bear festivals in Europe. We told you before, and it's not something new, that Sitges is a gay-friendly town. An example of this is the big party that takes place every year during Sitges Gay Pride.
International Bears Sitges Week takes place from September 3rd to September 11th. Unlike last year, in 2021 the event and activities are going to happen, but because of the curfew and the government's restrictions in order to control the pandemic, there will be some changes. For example, the curfew makes leisure activities close at 00:30h and the classic "bear village" will not be built. However, there will be many alternative activities that will respect current sanitary measures.
This event, which brings together more than 5,000 attendees in our city, is one of the largest and best known Bear festivals in Europe. Therefore, if you are thinking of visiting Sitges during the International Bears Sitges Week, don't miss out on everything we tell you in this post.

Going on vacation with children changes everything but it doesn't have to be a negative change. There are many destinations that offer all kinds of options and entertainment for children nowadays. Sitges is a good option if you want to enjoy a complete family holiday: beach, tranquillity, activities and proximity to Barcelona.
When we think of Sitges, some of the things that most quickly come to mind are tranquillity and disconnection. And while these two things are surely related to this town, it is also true that Sitges has a large number of cultural events and festivals that offer many possibilities to its visitors, and there is always something to do so nobody gets bored (unless you want to).
The Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 is really close, most hotels and tourist apartments in Barcelona are already full and it's almost impossible to find a good accommodation in the big city during the dates it takes place. But, why not stay near Barcelona instead of in it? Get away from the hustle and bustle of the Catalan capital during those days and enjoy the perfect stay in Stiges.
