What is the International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia?

The International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia is the world’s most important international event specializing in fantastic cinema, and at the same time, the cultural manifestation with the greatest media impact in Catalonia. Proof of this is the long list of renowned actors and filmmakers who have attended in past editions, including David Lynch, Quentin Tarantino, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Jodie Foster, Cameron Diaz, Viggo Mortensen, David Cronenberg, Guillermo del Toro, and Susan Sarandon, among many others.

When is the 2026 Sitges Fantastic Film Festival held? 

The festival has undoubtedly become a must-attend event for film lovers and for those looking to discover the latest trends and technologies in cinema and the audiovisual world. From 8 to 18 October 2026, Sitges will host a new edition of its renowned festival, bringing together cinema, culture and exciting genre productions.

Everything this 2026 edition has to offer

One of the major highlights of this year’s edition is the tribute to Carrie, the classic horror film directed by Brian De Palma and based on Stephen King’s novel, which celebrates its 50th anniversary. The film also features on the official poster for Sitges 2026, inspired by one of its most iconic scenes.

Spanish cinema will take centre stage with the 30th anniversary of Thesis, by Alejandro Amenábar, presented in a restoration supervised by the director himself. Other classics will also be screened, including Cannibal Holocaust and King Kong (1976), both restored in 4K.

The programme also embraces new voices and international perspectives with titles such as Leviticus, Kill Me, Sanguine, Hungry and Nightborn, exploring everything from supernatural horror and folk horror to thrillers and dark comedy.

This year, the historic El Retiro venue will not be part of the festival’s locations due to ongoing renovation work aimed at improving accessibility and safety, as well as restoring its original appearance.
