When we think of Sitges, some of the things that most quickly come to mind are tranquillity and disconnection. And while these two things are surely related to this town, it is also true that Sitges has a large number of cultural events and festivals that offer many possibilities to its visitors, and there is always something to do so nobody gets bored (unless you want to).
The first major event of the year (leaving aside the magic Kings parade in January) is the celebration of the Sitges Carnival. It is one of the best in Catalonia and even in Spain. Each February more than 200,000 people invade the town for a week to celebrate Carnival by the sea and have fun at a party full of colour and music. Dozens of floats participate in the parade and the king and the queen of the Sitges Carnival are also chosen. It is something that you have to live at least once in your life.
March is a month full of activity for our coastal town. On the first weekend of the month the already famous International Car Rally of Barcelona – Sitges is celebrated. Since 1959, when the first edition was held, a caravan of historical vehicles has come together to make a route between Plaça Sant Jaume in Barcelona and Plaça de la Fragata in Sitges every year. This peculiar journey is accompanied by exhibitions and concentrations of vintage vehicles for the delight of the attendees.
In this same month, Sitges also hosts the International Patchwork Festival, which includes exhibitions, workshops, courses and more; the Sitges Art Fair, which seeks to promote the work of plastic artists; and the Scrap + Fair, the quintessential Scrap-booking event.
In April the streets of Sitges are filled with music with the Jazz Antic Sitges, which has been held since 2013. During the days of the festival, musicians, singers and dancers take to the streets of the town and everything moves at the rhythm of the best jazz. A must in the agendas of all lovers of this musical genre.
Another of the most outstanding events is the “Fiesta del Corpus” of Sitges in June. During this festivity, the streets of the town are filled with beautiful and impressive carpets of flowers. In addition, the Corpus coincides with a contest in which the façades of houses and balconies are decorated with flowers.
Between the end of July and the beginning of August the Jardins Terramar Festival arrives in Sitges, with concerts, DJ sessions, foodtrucks and much more, in an enviable environment: an art noveau venue with fantastic gardens. The 2018 poster will be confirmed in April.
August is the month in which the “Festa Major”, the Local Festival of Sitges, is celebrated; in the case of 2018, between days 18 and 26. It is worht mentioning that it is a party that has been declared of national interest by the Generalitat de Catalunya. During the days of celebration, attendees can enjoy a program that has activities of all kinds and, of course, enjoy the beaches of this beautiful town. In case someone is left wanting more, the week of September 23, the Santa Tecla Festivities are celebrated in Sitges, which could be defined as the reduced version of the main festival that takes place the previous month.
Of course, we must highlight the Film Festival "Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantàstic de Catalunya", which is held every October in Sitges and attracts thousands of people every year. In 2018, the 51st edition will be held between the 5th and the 14th and, as always, will feature the visit of great personalities from the cinema sector, both national and international.
Speaking of Sitges, we could not finish this article without mentioning the great celebration of Gay Pride of Sitges that takes place in June. This town is considered one of the most "gay friendly" destinations in the Mediterranean and that is why every year it dresses up and hosts a party to celebrate its open and cheerful personality. Concerts, parades and many other shows fill Sitges during this party.
To fully enjoy any of these events, the ideal is to stay in an apartment in Sitges. In addition, as in most cases, these are events that attract many visitors, so we recommend reserving accommodation as early as possible. With SitgesGroup you can enjoy a perfect stay in Sitges, with apartments in the best locations and with a modern and cosy style, which will make you feel almost at home.
